The Women's Equality Party Limited ("Women's Equality Party", "the party", "we", "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Notice ("Notice") explains who we are, how we collect, share and use personal data about you, and how you can exercise your privacy rights. This Notice covers information we collect through our websites (such as www.womensequality.org.uk), and also the information we collect when we campaign, fundraise, survey and when we complete other case work as part of our mission.

1. What does the Women's Equality Party do?
The Women's Equality Party is a political party headquartered in Great Britain. Our focus is to unite people of all genders, ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, beliefs and experiences in the shared determination to see women enjoy the same rights and opportunities as men - so that all can flourish. 2. What personal data does the Women's Equality Party collect?
The personal data that we may collect about you broadly falls into the categories described below:
Information you provide voluntarily
We may collect certain personal data that you provide to us voluntarily online through our website or through our case work (such as through our campaigning efforts). The personal data you are asked to provide, and the reasons why you are asked to provide it, will typically be made clear to you at the point we ask you to provide your personal data.
Online: If you use our website, there are certain pages that ask you to provide personal data – such as when you indicate you would like to join the party, or would like to make a donation to us. When you register on our website, we will ask you for contact information (such as your name and e-mail address), geographic information (such as your constituency), and other relevant details about you and your interests.
Case work: If you interact with us as part of our campaigning, fundraising, surveying or other case work exercises, (which may be over the phone, by email, online or in person) we will collect the personal data that you volunteer as part of these interactions with us (such as your name, contact details, communication preferences, other demographic information, issues you raise or topics you are interested in). If you fill in a survey, form or leaflet (for example, delivered by a local Women's Equality Party representative or through our website) then we will collect the personal data you provide as part of that survey, form or leaflet. We may also collect personal information about you when you offer your services, ask about volunteering, or take part in any Women's Equality Party activities.
Sensitive personal data: Some of the information that you provide to us may be considered sensitive personal data under applicable data protection laws. For example, information about your political opinions or political affiliations is considered sensitive. We may collect this information when you voluntarily provide it to us as part of our campaigning, fundraising, surveying and case-work. As a political party, we are permitted under the applicable data protection laws to process this sensitive personal data as part of our political activities. Information that we collect automatically
When you visit our website, we may collect certain information automatically from your device. Some of this information may be collected using cookies and similar tracking technology, as further explained under the heading 'Cookies and similar tracking technology' below.
The information we collect automatically may include information like your IP address, device type, unique device identification numbers, browser-type, broad geographic location (e.g. country or city-level location) and other technical information. Cookies are also used to track anonymously which areas of our website are popular and which are not used as much.
We use this information better understand the visitors who come to and use our website, where they come from, their journey through our site and what content is of interest to them. We also track visitors' spending patterns. We use this information for our internal analytics purposes and to improve the quality and relevance of our website and content for our visitors.
Information that we obtain from third party sources
We may receive or source personal data about you from third party sources (for example census data, electoral registers, national land registry data or social media sites), but only where we have checked that these third parties either have your consent or are otherwise legally permitted or required to disclose your personal data to us.
In particular, we work with a third party processor, NationBuilder (owned and operated by 3DNA Corp). NationBuilder is used by political parties across the world, and matches publicly available information from social media with email addresses we have collected, to help us understand you better. You can manage the privacy settings of your social media accounts directly with each social media platform, if you would like to limit what information is publicly available about you. We also occasionally collect personal data when you interact with us on social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter, for example when you RSVP to a public event, or share a campaign.
3. How does the Women's Equality Party use my personal data?
In general, we will use the personal data we collect from you only for the purposes described in this Notice or for purposes that we explain to you at the time we collect your personal data. However, we may also use your personal data for other purposes that are not incompatible with the purposes we have disclosed to you (such as in the public interest) where this is permitted by applicable data protection laws.
Examples of the way we may use your data include to:
- Respond to your requests or provide you with information requested by you
- Contact you to canvass for political support
- Better understand views and issues important to you, which helps us send you relevant campaign materials or promotions
- Administer offers or applications to volunteer for the party or to become, remain or cease being a member of or candidate, election agent, Appointed Officer or other representative of the party
- Conduct fundraising activities, including checking your eligibility to donate
- Manage our websites and services
- Manage and process your membership, if you are or have been a member
- Manage and process your donations
- Tell you about policies, campaigns or other case work we think might interest you and share it with our elected representatives for them to do the same (in accordance with your communication and marketing preferences). If you have provided us with your email, mobile phone number or landline phone number and we have a legal right to use them for such purposes, we may use that information to contact you to promote causes and campaigns that we support, such as by sending you an email, online advert, or a text message. We will respect any registration you hold with the Telephone Preference Service (TPS) except where you have opted in to receive phone calls on that number from us. Please review the section headed 'Right to stop receiving communications' to find out how to opt out of communications from us at any time.
4. Who does the Women's Equality Party share my information with?
We may share your data in the specific ways set out below:
- To our third party services providers (such as NationBuilder) to undertake processing operations on our behalf to provide us with a variety of administrative, statistical, advertising and technical services. We will only supply service providers with the minimum amount of personal data they need to fulfil the services we request. We oblige all of our data processors to sign contracts with us that clearly set out their commitment to respecting individual rights, protecting your personal data – including not using it for any purpose other than providing us with an agreed service or fulfilling their legal obligations - and their commitment to assisting us to help you exercise your rights as a data subject.
- To any law enforcement body, regulatory, government agency, court or other third party where we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with the law, to defend our legal rights, or to protect your interests. For example, we and our candidates are required to submit records, including personal data, of donations above certain thresholds to the relevant regulatory authority. In some cases, some of these donations details may be made public. For more details about this, please contact us using the details provided below.
- Depending on how and why you provide us with your personal data it may be shared within the Women's Equality Party (i.e. between local, regional and national parts of the party and with our elected representatives)
- To any other person with your consent to do so.
Save for the limited circumstances noted above, we will never pass your personal data to any unrelated third parties unless you have given us your permission to do so, for example where you have signed a petition and are clearly aware that this petition will be presented to a third party.
5. Cookies and other similar tracking technology
We use cookies to collect and use personal data about you when you interact with our website. A cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to your browser from a web server and stored on your computer. We use cookies – including analytics cookies provided by companies such as Google – to tell whether a website user has logged-in, where to find details that can be used to pre-fill parts of on-line forms and to personalise the user’s visit to the website.
Internet browsers normally accept cookies by default; however, it is possible to set a browser to reject cookies. By modifying your browser preferences, you have the choice to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set or to reject all cookies.
On our websites or in other digital communications we may also use other tracking technologies such as web beacons, pixel tags, clear gifs or tracking pixels to provide us with information about how people have navigated through the site or responded to the communication.
6. Legal basis for processing personal data
The Women's Equality Party is a registered national political party in the UK; our work is designed to promote our values and to engage UK citizens in the democratic process.
Accordingly, our work is considered to be of substantial public interest. Because of that public interest basis we are entitled to process sensitive personal data which relates to your political opinions, and your personal data more generally, for the purposes of enabling us to perform our work effectively. Specifically, that processing may include using those aspects of your personal data to help us to plan and execute political campaigns, canvass for your support (such as by visiting or calling you), raise funds, and perform casework that relates to you and your local community.
You do have rights to ask us to stop processing your data for these purposes, and you can read details about those rights in the section below headed 'Your data protection rights'. In addition to the above we may also process your data for other purposes where you ask us to, or enter into a relationship with us that requires us to do so.
For example, if you choose to join us as a volunteer we will need to process your personal data to record that you have given us your support in this way. A contract will be put in place between you and us and we will process your personal data to the extent that we need to in order to fulfil our obligations under that contract.
Similarly, you may from time to time give us your consent to send you communications by e-mail (or similar media) which promote our work. Where you do that we will use your details to send you those kinds of communications until you tell us otherwise. Should you ever ask us to stop sending those kinds of communications we will hold your details on file to ensure that we respect that request – we justify that retention on the basis that we have a legitimate interest in holding your data in that way.
Finally, where we have received your personal data in the various ways described above, we may continue to hold it as part of our records after the relevant processing has stopped. We hold data in this way because we have a legitimate interest in doing so. Specifically, where you have been a member or a volunteer (or have otherwise engaged with us such as by attending a conference or event, or by responding to a survey or questionnaire) we have a legitimate interest in holding your personal data to help us to monitor the numbers and the diversity of people who engage with us, as well as a legitimate interest in making sure that we can follow up any complaints or grievances which you may raise, or which people may raise about you (as well as of the possible consequences if you do not provide your personal data).

7. How we protect your personal data
We take appropriate physical, electronic, technical and managerial measures to ensure that we keep your information secure, accurate and up to date, and that we only keep it as long as is reasonable and necessary. The measures we use are designed to provide a level of security appropriate to the risk of processing your personal data.
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your personal data, the Women’s Equality Party cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from or in our online products or services, and you do so at your own risk.
8. International data transfers
Please note that some of our service providers are based outside of the European Economic Area (the “EEA”). For example, our service provider NationBuilder is owned and operated by 3DNA Corp. a corporation headquartered in the United States. Where we transfer your data to a service provider that is outside of the EEA we seek to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to make sure that your personal data is held securely and that your rights as a data subject are upheld – in almost all cases we do this by ensuring that the agreements between us and our chosen service providers contain what are called the ‘model clauses’ that oblige them to treat your personal data as if they themselves were based in the EEA.
9. Third Party Sites
We may provide options to share content on social media which may result in your being directed to the social media network’s own systems. If you proceed with this, those networks may gather personal data about you in line with their own privacy policies.
You should be aware that if you access other websites, using any links we provide on our website or otherwise, these are outside our control. If you provide personal data to other companies, the privacy policies of those companies determine the uses to which that information is put and the Women’s Equality Party Privacy Notice will no longer apply.
10. Data retention
We only keep your personal data for as long as required to meet the purposes set out in this Notice, unless a longer retention period is required by law. For example, this may include holding your data after you have ceased to engage with us (such as by resigning or ceasing to be a member) where we have a legitimate interest in doing so, such as to enable us to respond effectively to grievances that may arise after you cease to engage with us. Where we collect and hold your details as part of our public interest work, this may also include retaining those details for as long as you remain a registered voter in the UK.
Where permitted by law, we may also save personal data for archiving purposes in the public interest, including historical research.
11. Your data protection rights
You have the following data protection rights:
- If you wish to access, correct, update or request deletion of your personal data, you can do so at any time by contacting us using the contact details provided under the 'Contact Us' heading below.
- In addition, you can object to processing of your personal data, ask us to restrict processing of your personal data or request portability of your personal data. Again, you can exercise these rights by contacting us using the contact details provided under the 'Contact Us' heading below.
- You have the right to opt-out of processing relating to your political opinions (such as how you have voted in the past, and things you have told us about how you are likely to vote)
- You have the right to opt-out of receiving communications we send you at any time. Please see the section below headed "Right to stop receiving communications" for further information.
- Similarly, if we have collected and processed your personal data with your consent, then you can withdraw your consent at any time. Withdrawing your consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing we conducted prior to your withdrawal, nor will it affect processing of your personal data conducted in reliance on lawful processing grounds other than consent.
- You have the right to complain to a data protection authority about our collection and use of your personal data. For more information, please contact your local data protection authority.
We respond to all requests we receive from individuals wishing to exercise their data protection rights in accordance with applicable data protection laws. When you contact us making a request to exercise your rights we are entitled to ask you to prove that you are who you say you are. We may ask you to provide copies of relevant ID documents to help verify your identity.
12. Right to stop receiving communications
Wherever possible, we will provide you with a choice about how we can contact you to share information about the Women's Equality Party. You can opt out of communications at any time by following the instructions below. It may take several days for requests submitted this way to become effective on our systems, or by the methods described below.
If you provide us with your email address and indicate that we may do so (e.g. by subscribing to an email distribution list or by ‘opting in’ through the membership page) we and our representatives may send you further information about the Women's Equality Party in the future. These communications will take the form of e-mails promoting us and our work and include information related to our campaigning and fundraising activities. We also occasionally ask our subscribers and members to complete surveys for research purposes.
You can request that you cease to receive this kind of communications from us at any time. The easiest way to do so is to use the unsubscribe link provided at the bottom of any e-mail messages that we send to you. You can also do so at any time by emailing us at [email protected]. It may take several days for requests submitted this way to become effective on our systems.
SMS Messages
If you provide your mobile phone number, we may call or send you text messages if you have given us permission to do so. You may request to stop receiving SMS messages at any point
You can stop receiving SMS text messages by following the instructions to opt out provided within that text message. You can also do so at any time by emailing us at [email protected]. It may take several days for requests submitted this way to become effective on our systems.
Post and Telephone
We may contact you by post or telephone using information provided to us through the electoral roll and other legitimate sources of contact information for the purposes of campaigning, notifying you of our values and policies, and checking your eligibility to donate.
We will respect any registration you hold with the TPS except where you have opted in to receive communications from us. Further, even if you are not on the TPS register you may ask us to stop making calls to you by telling one of our operators when we call you.
Please note that this right to stop communications does not apply to emails that we send to you that are a necessary part of our providing a service to you (such as messaging you about your status as a member or a volunteer) or our notifying you about how your personal data is being used. In addition, the right to stop communications does not apply to the Election Address that we are permitted to send to you during certain elections.
13. Updates to this Notice
We may update this Notice from time to time in response to changing legal, technical or business developments. When we update our Notice, we will take appropriate measures to inform you, consistent with the significance of the changes we make. We will obtain your consent to any material Notice changes if and where this is required by applicable data protection laws.
